This First Fruit I Bring

In the tradition of First Fruits, this poem marks the beginning of AWG—an offering of what is first, entrusted to God.

This First Fruit I Bring

I wondered and pondered what to open with
I sifted through every theme revealed, yet none fit
Another day passed with the same routine
Questions asked, answers silent.

Then came the realization
My, was it obvious
What better way to seal this moment
Than with a public declaration of Love.

So here is my declaration.

Lord…
How I love you
How I long to love you well
How I long to answer rightly when you ask
Do you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me?

I love only because you loved first
In my sin, you loved
In waking moments, you loved
Undeserving, you loved
Still undeserving, you are yet loving.

I cannot capture it in words
I am in awe
In awe of how you have loved
And how you are still loving.

When I drew my first breath, you Awww’d
When you named me yours, adored.

I cannot do much.

My human self can never offer enough.

Yet if all I do is breathe you
Day and night worship you
For all of time
Let that remain my reality.

For all of eternity
I am in awe
Still in awe.

So here is my declaration
My public declaration
Of my love for you.

  1. Actually not sure why this brought me to tears. I think it might be the realization that He loved me first and He still loves me despite my excesses and inadequacies. Thanks so much for sharing this piece.
