Daughter of the King

In March 2024, I was asked to share a message with my fellowship for our Women’s Day gathering. Coincidentally, during that same season I had been studying what it truly means to be a daughter. So I focused on what it means to be a Daughter of the King.

This is for every daughter.
For those raising daughters.
For those who love a daughter.
For those rediscovering their identities as daughters.
For those supporting and mentoring daughters.
For those walking alongside daughters.
And for all who desire to understand the heart of God toward His daughters.

What It Means to Be a Daughter of the King

To be a daughter is to be loved.
To be a daughter is to be delighted in, to be looked upon with joy, and to be claimed by God as His own. It means He can point to you and declare, “This is My daughter in whom I am well pleased”. Not due to perfection, but due to the relationship you have with Him.

Being His daughter means you are welcomed, received, and affirmed. You live under the covering of a Father who is intentional, present, and deeply invested in your growth.

Because of this, you have the privilege of calling Him Abba Father.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (Romans 8:15-16 NKJV)

To be His daughter means you are given a new identity. You are not defined by your past, your failures, or the labels placed on you. You are defined by the One who has given you His name and the right to become His daughter.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. (John 1:12 NKJV)

To be His daughter means you are royalty with angels on guard for you, keeping  you and walking alongside you.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 NKJV)

To be His daughter means you have an inheritance, one you did not earn. You are written into an eternal story and given promises that cannot decay or be taken from you.

To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:4 NKJV)

To be His daughter is to go on the journey of becoming, becoming like Him. You share in the interests of God, you long for what He longs for and hurts for what hurts Him, this means partaking in His sufferings, so you may also share in His glory.

And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (Romans 8:17 NKJV).

To be His daughter is to be fully known and still fully embraced.
It is to be called by name.
It is to be restored where the world tried to break you.

It is to be given beauty for ashes.

It is to be called the apple of God’s eyes.
It is to walk with confidence not rooted in yourself but in your Father.

This is what it means to be a Daughter of the King.

The Journey of Becoming

Growth is the natural order of every child, or in this case every daughter of the King. Scripture reminds us that we are not meant to remain as we are.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1 Corinthians 13:11 NKJV)

Maturity in God begins with knowing and loving your Father. When you love someone, you long to spend time with them and desire to please them. This journey of growing in your love for God develops in the secret place, when you labour in prayer, study the Word, pursue purity, and serve with consecration. There are realms of God you only encounter through deeper knowledge of Him.

As you grow, your life begins to reflect the character of a woman shaped by God. Proverbs 31 gives us a glimpse into that maturity.

She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. (Proverbs 31:17 NIV)
She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. (Proverbs 31:20 NIV)
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.(Proverbs 31:25 NIV)
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:26 NIV)
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. (Proverbs 31:27 NIV)
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. (Proverbs 31:29 NIV)
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (Proverbs 31:30 NIV)

Once you grow into this identity, God entrusts you with an assignment. Scripture shows this through the women He used across generations, times and seasons each carrying a divine assignment

These women and many others were not perfect, all with varying pasts, the common thread was that of preparation and submission. They were prepared to walk in the assignment.
They submitted their will to God.
They obeyed.

And in return, God used them mightily.

The same God who called them is calling you.
The same Father who equipped them is equipping you.
The same Spirit who empowered them dwells within you.

Your story, your purpose, your assignment carries weight and the question for every daughter remains this – Are you growing into who God designed you to be? And are you walking in what He has placed on your life?

To the Daughters of the King

To the Daughters of the King
You are beautiful, smart, funny, kind, unique, strong, wonderfully made, worthy of love and affection.
Never too much, always enough.
You are the pearl the Father purchased the field to claim.
You are the one He left the ninety-nine for.
You hold world-changing capabilities.
Your worth surpasses earthly measures, for in the eyes of God, you were worth dying for.
You, even you, are the daughter of the living God.
A daughter of the One reigning supreme.
A daughter of the King.
